Chilanga Mask August 11th 2015

This is a show I just saw one day scrolling through luchadb as one does and decided time to watch and review it.

Psycho Kid, Astro Rey Jr, Fulgor I, & Fulgor II vs Rey Apocalipsis, Tony Cisneros, Extreme Fly & Luz Clarita

I do not know most people in this match, but I'm giving it a shot and hoping for the best. One of the luchadores is in full Wonder Woman drag, I do not know why, but he is kinda rocking it so will not complain. That's apparently exotico Luz Clarita and I love him already. I quite enjoy the early mat work here between one of the Fulgors and Rey Apocalipsis, it truly is excellent. This opening tag has blown away my expectations of nothing into it being a grand time. The brawling into the crowd rules. A quite fun opener this one. This is a step above your average opening 6 man tag and is quite good. Every wrestler has played their part exceptionally well, and the match's pace has built well from the mat work in the beginning, into massive dives and crowd brawling. The dives are wild including a splash off the top onto two people draped over the barricade. There are truly too many cool spots to list. Clarita is pinned however he is not legal. The finish was a tad confusing but overall a good match. Probably goes to long but is really fun for what we get. Massive brawl in the crowd after the match which is really fun.

Virus vs Dr. Cerebro

Two of the greats of an age begin by working holds as they often do. This match, to begin, is everything I want from two men who have forgotten more about holds then most will ever know to start. Some of these holds from both men are fantastic, bending human bodies into positions you didn't know could. The holds and pins are crisp, but sometimes the transitions are, unfortunately, not as snappy as you would expect from these two. It is very good work but match the match places too much focus on a figure four for a llave match for me. As well as feeling as if they are working at half speed and Virus looks blown up which is a shame. Sadly, this match has just not lived up to either man's best. Virus in particular just does not look good in this one which is unfortunate. He has a habit here of picking up pace doing something cool, then slowing down again immediately after, hurting the pacing. The back portion isn't that bad, but it's far below the standard of either man, though Cerebro tries his ass off in it. Virus wins after a very uninspiring performance. Rating not being worse is due to how much Cerebro tried.

Keira vs Zeuxis

Quick frantic grappling ends with Zeuxis having an advantage. I am pleasantly surprised with how much I am enjoying the mat work here, it is crisp and it is quick. A fantastic surfboard that honestly shows how slowly Virus and Cerebro were working in that prior match. Some slight botches but still a very, very enjoyable match here. Zeuxis hits a vicious kick on Keira before working into the crowd. Zeuxis is putting on a great show and Keira is holding up her end of the bargain. I really enjoy this match, good work, hot crowd, and a frantic pace that doesn't feel over done. Quite a good match this one is. Losing it a bit here near the end but the match as a whole has been quite good. Kickouts have gotten excessive now but well it is a 2015 indie match so that is to be expected. Keira winning after being down for so long doesn't do it for me and Zeuxis almost died during the finish but was good as a whole.

Aero Boy, Super Mega, + Magnifico vs Iron Kid, Alas De Acero, and Aramis vs Impulso, Belial, & Arez vs Garrobo Punk Ciber Punk

Really quick, crisp trading of holds early on. I imagine this match will be a million miles per hour, and that is true so far. Someone is in Bret Hart gear. This is definitely to get noticed by doing cool spot indie match. There isn't much in terms of struggle or resistance, but well executed spots. Arez with minimal tattoos and prior to being fully the king of strange is odd, but cool to see. I think two teammates are in, which is odd. The match is very frantic and hard to follow thus far but the action is good. There's also negative selling until an apron Spanish fly. Another match with a brawl in the crowd section, that makes it three out of four now. Now the whole purpose of this match is to do cool shit and they do, in fact, do a lot of cool shit. I believe Arez pins someone, or not I am wrong. To many things going on in this match, I believe each team needs to be pinned to lose. It does get more coherent as more and more people are eliminated. The final few minutes are pretty damn good. Some odd reffing as well. There has been a theme of good matches followed by meh endings, as well as matches just sadly out-living how long they should be. As a whole, it's worth a watch for the cool shit and some cool rudo shenanigans.

Blue Panther vs Trauma II

Loud Panther chants begin this one. Now this is llave I can get behind. Panther is the old man who knows every trick in the book against the upstart son of a legend that is Trauma II. Trauma is more then game on the mat stretching the legend with complex holds. I already love this match as the older Panther gets sympathy in droves every time he is on the defense. Panther is amazing in this match, truly, and Trauma more than holds up his end of the deal. This match gets a tad sloppy but in a way that feels intentional, not in that "they are blown up" way. The way Panther ties Trauma into knots is the stuff of legend, quite frankly. He's doing things you didn't know were possible every few seconds. You may notice in my reviews I love llave and this is not an exception to that love. I also love the way they build off the mat into Panther hitting a massive tope. Then the cut off into the selling by Panther is even better. Whilst the earlier legend based llave match disappointed, this has been far from a disappointment. Panther is incredible here. Panther gets him to tap out. A truly great match. Father time runs in fear from Panther.

Black Terry (as Guerrero Maya Sr.) vs Guerrero Maya Jr.

This is a fully kayfabe parentship. Holy shit the lockup is the stuff of dreams before we get into the chops and stalling. We go into the mat work and as one would expect it is fantastic. Black Terry has never once lacked fire and this match is not an exception in any way, and Maya Jr. is more than willing to give him a fight. This match is everything you would want from these two, genuinely incredible. So smooth, but such a fight. It is awesome in every meaning of the word. Black Terry one upping Panther on this show in giving father time the double deuce. Maya Jr. is first to rip at the mask and the old man fires up at the disrespect. This match is genuinely fantastic, Maya Jr is amazing as a rudo and the ever sympathetic Terry sells his ass off. Terry is first to bleed tonight and it's an amazing visual as he is thrown hither and yon. Black Terry really is one of the greatest bleeders in wrestling history and his comeback is even better. I love this match so much, it does a little bit of everything that makes Black Terry one of the true all time greats. Also these chair shots from Terry are nasty, he swings them and says Maya you better get your hands up. The match turns into a knock down, drag out fight and it is absolutely awesome. I love this match so goddamn much. A giant tope from Maya Jr. and then more amazing brawling. Stumbling around as they trade nasty strikes before a dumb DQ finish. Everything before the finish? 80/80. The finish, however? Bad. Overall great. Post match brawl also fucking awesome as they just kneel and throw absolute murder at each other.

Caifan & Avisman vs Ultimo Guerrero & Hechicero

Avisman and UG kick this one off with fun mat work to begin. Three straight matches with fantastic mat mat work which is not surprising at all. Both men exit the ring now with Caifan and Hechicero hugging it out before they begin their grappling. The grappling between Hechicero and Caifan is different from any we have seen before, however quickly switches to strikes. This is breathtaking technique truly. This is my first time seeing Caifan and he is genuinely awesome. This match has more of a sparring feeling but Caifan has had enough of that and cheap shots UG, leading to a more heated section that is awesome. Leading to Hechicero and UG beating the living bejeezus out of Avisman. A hell of a rudo team, these two. Another genuinely great match. The Caifan/UG stare down was absolutely sick. UG throws a sick lariat laying out Caifan that causes a grasp to run through the crowd. The match at times is a tad sloppy but gods, what is good here is the very best you could ask for. Ultimo Guerrero leaps clear over the barricade in this one. The crowd is hotter than hell for this match and Avisman is stealing the show truly. A great tag match. One of these days people will learn you don't attempt to rana UG off the top rope, today is not one of those days however. I'm just watching this and sitting back with a smile on my face. Please, just find this match, it is so great, genuinely. Another finisher that looked like pure murder I don't know what they were trying but fuck me it looked like a finish.

70/80

Pagano vs Trauma I

There is no llave to start this one but we are definitely in for some Lucha Extrema and chair shots. This match is so different than even the Terry Maya match and I am here for it. A messy sloppy brawl in a good way. Crazy bumps galore, even on regular moves , they do it in the most "fuck it" way possible. I love this match so much. It's not great, it's junk food wrestling, but sometimes that is really enjoyable. Pagano breaks out the fork which slows down the match and rips at the mask of Trauma. (making the low blow DQ earlier look worse) I really enjoy this match, it is not what I would call "good", really, but it is really fun. Most of it is Pagano hitting random weapon based offense. Trauma's comeback is quite interesting as he is bleeding and looking for weapons and finds a beer bottle. He begins digging the hell out of Pagano's forehead with the beer bottle. The match is going far too long at this point and is worse for it . Death match or death match adjacent matches get worse the longer they go and this is not the exception. Overall solid match.

50/80

This was a pretty good show with three truly must-watch matches right in the heart of the middle of the show. Truly a legendary 3 match run that is well worth watching. Sadly Virus and Cerebro disappointed. The other matches that looked legendary on paper, certainly lived up to it. The rest was mostly good, nothing special really but a fun time to be had there.
